General News, Editorial and Sermon.
All right. It is nearly time. This is the last newsletter before the run. If everyone who is planning on attending could please either drop me a line or better yet, send an e-mail to montana500@antiqueautoranch.com it would be a great help to better plan things. This year things are going to be a bit different. Bozeman Ford is kindly hosting us at their fabulous new place. Their address is 2900 N. 19th Ave. Bozeman, MT 59715. The plan is to flag out each morning from Bozeman Ford. We will also have the pre-race inspection and tear down there. The pre-race inspection will begin at 1:00 p.m. Sunday. Bozeman Ford requests that we bring our cars to their place Sunday morning, if practical, as they will be having a car show and other special events. They will supply breakfast for us each race morning and lunch Wednesday. Our base hotel will be the Continental Motor Inn. They say they have a big parking lot and that there is room for motor homes, trailers and T’s. There are no hook-ups though. The address is 1324 E. Main Street, Bozeman, MT 59715. Phone: 406-587-9231; Toll Free: 800-221-1886. Tell them that you are with the Montana 500 and you will get a good deal. Thursday we will leave from Bozeman and tour Yellowstone.
Signs, signs everywhere signs.
Don’t forget to make two signs, one for each side, for your Model T with your name and hometown. Try to make it with at least 3" tall letters.
Tom, you got some ‘splainin’ to do!
For the last year or so I’ve been writing short stories for this newsletter. Last newsletter had one called The Box. From the feedback I’ve received, apparently most people didn’t get it. It was supposed to be an April Fools story. What it was, was an adaptation (rip-off) of the song TheThing by Phil Harris. That is why I referenced Phil at the beginning. In the story, Butch is dreaming and every time a rooster crows (er-er-er) he incorporates that sound into his dream. I also forgot to acknowledge the cool drawing by Fred Wattenburger. Speaking of which, did you notice his drawing in the Vintage Ford ad? Pretty neat, huh!? He also has drawn another for this issue’s story. I think this may be his last drawing as I believe he has fulfilled his obligation to me in that regard. I am also just about out of stories. I originally wrote six, but have written a few more. When these are gone, I think I’m done writing short stories.
Timing is everything.
Mark and Janice Hutchinson have agreed to take care of the timing duties for us this year. That should take a big load off of me. Thank-you Hutchinsons! Next year it would be ideal if a non-participant did the time keeping. We will push for that.Off on a technicality.
A special thanks to my technical editor Mr. Steve Coniff who kindly reads my technical articles and trys to clear up bad information. Sorry about the itty-bitty print. It was the only way that I could get it to fit.
