MONTANA CROSS-COUNTRY 'T' ASSOCIATION, INC.

General Rules and Regulations for 1981

  1. Not more than two (2) people per car at any time as a driver or assistant. More than two people can be participants with any one car but no more than two (2) working on it at any one time during the race, including coffee stops. Any relief driver must be a paid-up member of the Association.
  2. Tow units and travel units are to leave last. While on the road, passenger cars and pickups must remain at least 100 yards behind "T"ers.
  3. Route will be posted and marked as deemed advisable.
  4. Last day of race scheduled to end at noon in order to have time for teardown inspection, meeting etc.
  5. Sponsors and advertising optional.
  6. Club will furnish braided seal wire, each driver will be expected to put the wire in place so it may be sealed, or NO INSPECTION.
  7. Drill left hand front head bolt, second or third large pan, and first and second small pan bolt.
  8. Removal of head or pan will impose a time penalty of one (1) hour unless you are under the time clock. Removal of head or pan should be reported to the Timers by anyone knowing of such being done.
  9. No replacement of complete engine allowed. Penalty for such being done is disqualification.
  10. No battery to exceed six (6) volts.
  11. Other repairs during time out, no penalty.
  12. Disabled cars may be trailered and will receive slow time plus a one hour time penalty from last check-out point. Cars trailered in on last day are not eligible for prize money and/or trophies. Please report to Timer as soon as possible.
  13. Citation by law will constitutes a time penalty of one (1) hour
  14. First three (4) cars will be torn down and inspection by five (5) appointed inspectors, with all cars being available for inspection. THE DECISION OF INSPECTORS IS FINAL. All inspectors must vote.
  15. Any car disqualified, the owner becomes responsible for reassembly.
  16. NO ALCOHOLIC BEVERAGES ALLOWED IN COMPETING CARS. THIS IS A MUST AND ANYONE GUILTY OF AN INFRACTION WILL BE DISQUALIFIED.

BODY AND CHASSIS REQUIREMENTS

1. All Model "T"s Must Be Stock With The Following Exceptions:

A. Some type of substantially built box or turtle deck - minimum length and width equal to size for stock turtle deck on that year car, with floor, sideboards and end-gate. Sides and end no less than six (6) inches high from floor and made of no smaller than 3/4 inch wood.

B. Only Model "T" wire or wooden spoke or disc wheels allowed. May use Model "A" 21 inch wheel or 30x3 1/2 wire wheels.

C. Only 4:40-4:50/21, 30x3 or 30x3 1/2 tires allowed.

D. Rebuilt radiators allowed. Must be built to stock dimensions including tanks and side brackets.

E. Windshields, must be stock for year of car. No altering. Must have safety sheet or safety plate glass, top and bottom windshields, to be closed completely and sealed for race. NO EXCEPTIONS.

F. Only model "T" rear end, axles and standard eleven tooth pinion, and forty tooth ring gear allowed. Bronze thrust washers also allowed. Roller bearings only.

G. Gas tank must be stock for year of car and mounted in its stock position with no raising of tank.

H. At least 36 inch of 1 1/2 inch exhaust pipe required.

I. Emergency brakes must be in good working condition.

J. Complete set of floor boards required in place.

K. Bolts on wishbone at rear of pan must be safety wired.

L. Ruckstell axles must be disconnected while under time.

M. Cars must be licensed; either pioneer or regular.

INFRACTION OF ANY OF THE ABOVE RULES WILL BE CAUSE FOR DISQUALIFICATION!

N. Model "T" type headlights in working order required; sealed beam allowed.

O. Horn of any type in working order required.

P. The name of the owner or driver and his home town shall be on both the right and left hand sides of the car, in block or script, at least three (3) inches in height, any color, on the car itself or an attached sign.

Q. Rear view mirror of any type required.

R. Padded seat cushions and back rest of any type required.

THERE WILL BE A 15 MINUTE TIME PENALTY FOR FAILURE TO COMPLY WITH ANY OF RULES "N" - "R".

S. Neoprene seals in rear axle optional.

T. One (1) or more stop lights required.

U. Shock absorbers are optional

V. No sagging or re-arching of springs and at least seven (7) leafs per spring.

W. Zerk fittings in place of oil cups are optional.

X. Hoods are not required.

Y. Body must be painted - color optional.

Z. Body parts must be stock for year of car.

2. Model "T" Engine and Transmission Assembly Must Be Stock with the Following Exceptions Allowed

a. Reboring of cylinders not to exceed sixty-thousandths oversize or less than 3.750.

b. No limit on amount of milling of block and/or head, except head must be a stock Ford script high head. No low heads will be legal with no relieving of block.

c. Cast iron or aluminum pistons of stock Model "T" type required with a comp. distance not to exceed 1 15/16 inch measured from the center of pin to top of piston.

d. There must be one standard assembly (piston and rod) in engine. The other three assemblies can be balanced to this one.

e. Full set of piston rings required.

f. You may modify the lobes on any stock, Ford script Model-T camshaft.

g. Only standard size valve heads and forty-five degree valves and seats allowed, pin or two (2) piece keepers and valve setting optional.

h. No air holes allowed in manifold; must be plugged if present.

i. Only stock cast iron intake manifold or aluminum manifold with openings not to exceed 1 1/8 inch diameter allowed.

j. No grinding of the intake or exhaust manifolds or of the ports allowed. Must be stock dimension which is 1-1/8 inchs.

k. Chroming of crankshaft optional.

l. No oversize journals on crankshaft allowed.

m. No counter-balanced crankshaft allowed.

n. Drilling of rods, rod caps, main webs and use of dippers optional.

o. Type of fourth main is optional.

p. All transmission bands must be in working order, bonded type optional.

q. Only NH Holley swayback and/or Ford swayback carburetors allowed. No boring of carburetors or of needle and seats allowed. Must be complete including choke butterfly. Carburetors can be interchanged among years. No more than three (3) qualified carburetors allowed in possession. Carburetor bolt on thread and must be drilled and also drill center head bolt on manifold side for sealing purposes.71C thousandths gauge must not go thru carburetor. Changing of carburetor will incur a 15 minute time penalty. This must be reported to one (1) inspector.

r. Gas strainers allowed.

s. Only one (1) outside oil line, not more than one-half inch outside diameter allowed, no modifications to inside oiling system allowed.

t. Only stock Ford roller type, New Day or Anderson flapper type timers allowed. Ball or needle bearing rollers optional. No quick couplers allowed in timer wires.

u. Heat or temperature gauges optional.

v. Design and use of water pump optional.

w. "V" type belt and pulleys optional.

x. Adjustable lifters are optional.

THE PENALTY FOR INFRACTION OF ANY OF THE ABOVE RULES IS DISQUALIFICATION!
