Howdy Model T'ers,

We hope the past year was an enjoyable one for you and your family.  I'm in the mood to move the Model T into the shop again.  Now if I could only remember who borrowed it last.  Frank??

The Date of the 1995 Endurance Run is set for June 19th thru June 22nd.  Fairmont Hot Springs is the hub and overnight location for the race.  Fairmont Hot Springs is located about 15 miles West of Butte along I-90.  Take I-90 Exit 211 and drive southwest 3 or 4 miles to get there.

Registration and car inspection is on Monday.  We drive to Missoula and back on Tuesday, drive to Dillon and back on Wednesday and drive to Montana City (near Helena) and back on Thursday.  This should bring the total miles driven to 500.

I expect that most of us will stay at Fairmont Hot Springs Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday nights.  We will most likely head home Thursday evening.  Twenty rooms are set aside for the club members.  Reserve your room (1-800-332-3272) before May 30th and you should get a room at the discount rate at Fairmont for $75.00 a night for single or double occupancy, including children.

Occupied motor home parking can be obtained near by at the Fairmont RV Park (1-406-797-3505).  Unoccupied motor home and trailer parking is available in Fairmont's west side parking lot where the T's will be inspected and stored.

Sam Nickol and myself drove the route, picked up the exit numbers, restaurant menus and visited with the nice folks at Fairmont last week.

What Class do you want to run in?

Typically, we have been using just one class over the past several years.  It encompasses both cast iron and aluminum piston engines.

Cast Iron Class.  I am willing to try to accommodate this class again if we can get, say, eight cast iron cars to enter this year and the following years.  If you cast iron guys want to run it, show some interest soon and get your letter to me.  We should be able to make okey-dokey accommodations.

Aluminum Piston Class.  We have about 10 cars regularly showing up with aluminum pistons.  We could handle fifteen more.

Awards and Trophies.  Some of the members I've talked to recently, indicate that they don't want trophies if they place.  Most of these members agree that a plaque for first place should be given to the winner when the annual trophy is brought back.  I'm puzzled about what else could be awarded.

The prizes awarded may not be of much usefulness to all racers.  But since all racers try to do better each year, something should be commemorative.  In the past, we have given out new Model T parts, shop tools and trophies.  Some members indicate that they have plenty and that they end up with duplication.  One thing for sure is that we will still give out participation plaques commemorating the race.  So I need your ideas on what to give out for awards.

You can speed up the inspection of the cars by making sure your horn, headlights, tail and brake lights work ahead of time.  Your Ruckstell must be disabled and wired in high.  A rear view mirror is required.  Be certain that your endurance cars do not contain illegal parts or modifications (Refer to the 1988 rules or ask me for a copy.)  Disqualifying cars is a terrible experience for anyone.  Please arrive legal and stay that way.

Volunteers are needed for Timing.  Janet Cerovski will be the head timer this year, so be extra nice to her.  Everyone interested in helping out with timing chores and gag gifts or skits should talk with Janet with intent of having some great fun.  Those people willing to help out with timing should attend the time keepers meeting after inspection at 5:10 pm Monday afternoon in the banquet room.

Twenty-five baseball type caps will be made up for the event.  Do any of you want a silk screened or embroidered jacket?  Specify size and color and we will try to get you a price on one.

Tentative Agenda for Monday, June 19, 1995.

Registration for drivers and membership will run from 1:00 pm to 5:00 pm.  It will be inside the lodge near the popcorn booth.

Come on in and register.  Timed participants pay $55.00 and receive an inspection form to be filled out by the clubs car inspectors.  Touring type cars may participate in the non-timed class by paying $35.00.  Racing cars disqualified during vehicle inspection because of illegal parts or what ever may participate in the touring class, but their owners won't get a refund.  All cars must pass the safety inspection to join in the run.

Montana Law requires that the registration and insurance papers must be in the vehicle at all times.

Annual membership dues can be made current at that time.  Our Secretary-Treasurer would like the $10.00 sooner, for covering the cost of these letters.  I would like to have a rough head count of participants by the end of March.

Model T Inspection will be in the large parking lot behind and west of the main hotel area.  Inspection of all participant cars will begin Monday at 1:00 pm and should end by 5:00 pm.

Car trailers and tow vehicles can be parked there also.

Assembly for dinner will begin about 6:30 pm in a banquet room.  Beverages and meals can be ordered from the house menu.  The estimated cost of the meals may be in the $10.00 and up range.  Using the banquet room as a meeting room will be free with this approach.

The pre-race meeting, mandatory for drivers and timers, will follow dinner in the same room at 8:00 pm.  Anyone interested is invited to attend.  The finalized locations of the starting and stopping stations will be given out, numbers for determining the send off order will be drawn and other pertinent information will be discussed.

Two tow vehicles with trailers will follow the last car on all legs of the race.  It is customary that the Model T drivers will have someone drive their tow vehicle with a trailer for one day of the race.  Please be ready to volunteer your tow vehicle, trailer and driver or gas money, since we do not want to anyone Model T driver stranded.

Bring a plastic jug for your used motor oil.

Tentative Agenda for Tuesday, June 20, 1995.

Drivers, cars and timers should meet at the I 90 & Secondary 441 Fairmont interchange at Exit 211 at about 7:30 am.  Timers can synchronize the time clocks and one team can head out.  Cars will be flagged out to Missoula in one minute intervals, beginning at 8:00 am.  Cars will be flagged out in numerical order.  It is nearly 100 miles to Missoula and it is expected to take about two to three hours for all cars to arrive in Missoula.  There are no scheduled stops between the Fairmont Exit and Missoula.

Lunch in Missoula can be eaten at Finnigans Restaurant or McDonalds on East Broadway at about 11:00 am.  Take the West Bound Exit 105 for Van Buren St. off the interstate and then turn left at the stop sign.  Go under the interstate and at the stop light, take a right.  Finnigans is next door to McDonalds.  There are a couple of gas stations in this vicinity.

All racers and the timers will meet at 12:30 pm, about 2 miles East of Finnigans Restaurant along Broadway St. which is also marked as MT Route 200.  (See map of Missoula.)  At about 1:00 pm, cars may be flagged out in thirty second intervals onto I 90 near the I-90 on ramp MP 106 for the trip back to Fairmont.  The order of departure w will be the same as the order of arrival.  Model T's should arrive at the Anaconda Exit I-90 208 in about 2 to 3 hours.

We might have all entrants wait on the shoulder of the Anaconda Road and have a quick look at the seals.  After that you can gas up yo thirsty rigs in Anaconda.

Assembly for dinner will begin about 6:30 pm in a banquet room.  Beverages and meals can be ordered from the house menu.  The estimated cost of the meals may be in the $10.00 per person range.

Another mandatory drivers and timers meeting will follow dinner in the same room at 8:00 pm.  The actual location of the starting and stopping gates and times for Wednesday's leg will be given out as well as other pertinent information.

Tentative Agenda for Wednesday, June 21, 1995.

Drivers, cars and timers should meet at the I 90 & MT 10-A Anaconda interchange Exit 208 at about 7:30 am.  Timers can synchronize the time clocks and one team can head out.  Cars will be flagged out to Dillon in thirty second intervals, beginning at 8:00 am.  The order of cars will be slowest car out first, fastest car out last.

When heading East on I-90, look for the I-15 South to Dillon Exit near Mile Post 219.  Take this exit carefully as it is signed at 25 MPH and the worst of the curve is at the bottom.  Continue to head South on I-15 to the second Interchange at the south end Dillon, which is I-15 Exit 63.  It is about 69 miles between Fairmont and Dillon and there are no scheduled stops.

Cars can be expected to arrive in Dillon from 9:30 am thru 10:15 am.  We will pit stop and wait for everybody before heading back to Fairmont.

All racers and the timers will meet at 11:30 am, near the on ramp at the south end of Dillon, which is I-15 # 69.  At about noon, cars may be flagged out in thirty second intervals onto I-15 North Bound for the trip back to Fairmont.  The order of departure will be the same as the order of arrival.  There are no scheduled stops between Dillon and Fairmont.  Take care at the I-15 to I-90 West Bound on ramp as it is signed for 30 MPH.  Model T's should arrive at the Anaconda Exit I-90 208 between 1:30 pm and 2:15 pm.

We might have all entrants wait on the shoulder of the Anaconda Road and have a quick look at the seals.  After that you can gas up in Anaconda.

Assembly for Wednesday's dinner will begin about 6:30 pm in the banquet room.  Beverages and meals can be ordered from the house menu.  The estimated cost of the meals may be in the $10.00 per person range.

The mandatory drivers and timers meeting will follow dinner in the same room at 8:00 pm.  The location of the final starting and stopping gates for Thursday's leg will be given out as well as other pertinent information.

Tentative Agenda for Thursday, June 22, 1995.

Drivers, cars and timers should meet along the shoulder of the Anaconda road near the I-90 interchange, Exit 208 at about 7:30 am.  Timers can synchronize the time clocks and one team can head out.  Cars will be flagged out to Montana City in thirty second intervals, beginning at 8:00 am.  The order of cars will be fastest car out first, slowest car out last.

Stay on I-90 and follow it around Butte.  Look for I-90 Exit # 227 which is I-15 North to Helena and take it.  This ramp to I-15 is much better and a modern car can handle it at 55 MPH.

It is expected for the first car to arrive at the I-15 Exit # 187, Montana City, about 9:30 am and the last one about 10:30 am.  Take this Exit and turn left and go to the Exchange Club for a pit stop.

There are no scheduled stops between Fairmont and Montana City which is about 77 Miles.

We will not have a lunch break in Montana City, but time will be halted for a pit stop.  At about 11:30 we will get ready to leave the Montana City Interchange.  At Noon, we will flag out in the order that we arrived in 30 second intervals.  Head South on I-15 to Butte and get onto I-90 West Bound at I-15 Exit # 129 and continue on I-15 to Exit 208.

There are no scheduled stops between Montana City and Fairmont.

Cars should be arriving at the Fairmont I-90 Exit 211 about 1:30 pm.

Drivers are requested to congregate and wait for all cars to arrive.  The drivers and timers meeting will be held when the last car arrives back at Fairmont.  A vote will be taken for determining the need of a tear down.

We will have a final meeting after lunch in Fairmont and present the awards and participation plaques.
