Merry Christmas Model T’ers and Happy New Year!

At last we are in communication with you.  Santa had a bit of trouble rounding up the elves and reindeer, but here we go!

The Annual Fall Meeting was held on October 23, 1999 at Elmer’s Restaurant in Great Falls, Montana.  The meeting started at 3:05 p.m.

The members present were: Doug Langel, Stan Howe, Simon Nickol, Sam Nickol, Rick Carnegie, Tom Carnegie, Janet Cerovski and Tony Cerovski.  Our Guests included, Carla Carnegie, Brandon Langel and Jerome (friend of the Nickol’s.)

The 1998 Annual meeting minutes were read and amended as follows:  Add Scott Stubbert to the members present and change Janet, Doug and George to one year directors. 

The 1999 Treasurer’s report was read and approved.  We had $1,179.63 in income, $1,198.45 in expenses, a checking account balance of $930.67, $300 in cash and a total balance of $1230.67.

13 new people joined the Association during 1999.  They are:  Ted Ballard, Tom & Susie Carnegie, Bud DeLong, Gary & Kathleen Ebbert (Y2K), Bern & Margaret Long, Willard & Kathryn Lovell, Harold & Dortha Mann (Y2K), Rattler Reed Olson, Charlie & Gloria Ostlund (Y2K), Ralph & Ronna Ricks, George Shebley, Jack & Genevieve Tossetti, Reid Welch and Alan Wolf.  Welcome aboard and please plan on getting in on the fun of Endurance Runs.  We have 46 members that have paid current dues. 

Old business was brought up for discussion.  A favorable discussion was held on the 1999 Endurance Run in Missoula.  The Association presented a winner’s plaque to Simon and congratulated him.

We elected four replacement Directors.  The listing of the current officers and directors are:

Y2K Endurance Run (40th):  At the Drivers-Timers Meeting on the last day of the 1999 race, the members present discussed and chose the year 2000 race route and dates.  The 2000 Endurance Run will be based out of Great Falls, Montana and we will have a special tour following the race.  The dates are June 18th through June 22nd, 2000.   Below is a tentative break down.  Please mark your calendars as the dates are set.

Saturday,   June 17     Out of State T’ers arrive in Great Falls

Sunday,     June 18     Model T inspection 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.

Monday,     June 19     Great Falls - Havre - Great Falls. Tentative route

Tuesday,    June 20     Great Falls v89 Valier I-90 Great Falls. Tentative route

Wednesday,  June 21     Great Falls - Shelby for finish. Tentative route

Thursday,   June 22     Tour the “Going to the Sun” Highway - Glacier Park. Tentative route

Bonnie Nickol volunteered to do the motel setups and the Nickol family will set up the routes.   The Motel reservation news, route news, and other itinerary material will be coming to you over the next 4 months.

The tour day is not mandatory for Endurance Run Participants.  Anyone who wishes to tour Glacier Park with the MCCTA may do so by paying their membership fee ($10.00) and by paying a $25.00 Glacier Park tour fee.  Those members participating in the Y2K Endurance Run will tour Glacier Park for free.  Bonnie and George Nickol (406-627-2380) will lead the Glacier Park tour. 

New Business.  A step-by-step review of the Endurance Run Rules (revised last in 1988) occurred.  The Directors discussed each rule and wrote down the passing proposals for the Membership to vote on.  The proposals were sent out to the Directors for editing and now have been placed on a ballot for the Membership to vote on. 

The Membership determines by vote (ballot) to accept or reject each proposed rule change.  The full membership is asked to vote on each item proposed on the attached ballet and to return the ballot before January 31, 2000.  Your signature on the attached ballot is required to validate the ballot. 

There was no other new business and the meeting was adjourned at 6:45 p.m.

Year 2000 dues due.  Please review the attached dues statement and send in your year 2000 dues of $10.00.  Dues become due January 1, 2000.  For your ballot to become valid, your year 2000 dues must be paid.  Thank you very much and have a safe year in the Model T’s.

For Rule Changes Proposed by the Directors for the Members 12-26-1999

In accordance with the Montana Cross Country T Association By-Laws (Revision Dated November 11, 1995), Article 7 Rules and Specifications of Racing Equipment, Section 1, the Directors hereby submit the following proposed rule changes to the Vote of the Membership.

1988    30.       Only NH swayback and or Ford swayback carburetors allowed.

2000    30.       Add the letter “F” after the word “Ford”.                                                       _____  _____

1988    31.       A restrictor plate......

2000    31.       Change the plate thickness to 1/8 “ flat iron.                                                  _____  _____

2000    31 a.    Restrictor plates will not be used on engines with cast iron pistons.             _____  _____

                        Director’s vote:  4 for & 3 nays.

1988    32.       Tear down will be determined by a vote of the participating drivers

                        immediately following the completion of the Endurance Run.  The

                        decision is determined by a simple majority vote of those drivers.

2000    32.       The top 3 cars will be torn down immediately following the last flag. 

                        Additional teardowns will be put to the vote of the Endurance drivers. 

                        Endurance drivers will vote to accept or reject items of  question.                _____  _____

1988    36.       Only stock Model “T” or Ruckstell rear-ends and axles with:

                         -standard eleven tooth pinion, -forty tooth ring gear, -stock

                        roller bearings.  Options:  Bronze thrust washers.  Neoprene seals.

2000    36.       Add the words “or roller” after the word Bronze.                                          _____  _____

                        Director’s Vote:  4 for, 2 nays, 1 abstain.

1988    39.       No sagging, re-arching or shortening of springs and at least seven

                        leafs per spring.          

2000    39.       Change to “Use stock configuration spring sets with a minimum of

                        seven leafs per spring set.                                                                               _____  _____

                        Director’s Vote:  6 for, 1 nay.

1988    40.       Must have standard “T” sized battery not exceeding six volts.

                        Change to “Use a group 1 six volt wet cell battery for magneto ignition

                        system back up, lighting lamps, running horn and starter.  Six 1-volt

                        dry cell batteries may be used in lieu of the above 6-volt battery.                 _____  _____

1988    49.       Only standard size valve heads and forty-five degree valves and seats

                        allowed.  Use of pin or two piece keepers and valve setting optional.

2000    49.       Change to:  Valves:  Stainless steel and swirl polished valves are

                        optional. For all valves use a minimum stem diameter of 5/16”, a

                        maximum head diameter of 1.500“ and seating face of 45 degrees.

                        Use either pins or two piece keepers.  Hardened valve seats optional. 

                        Radiused, 45 degree or 3 angle seat grinds allowable.                                   _____  _____

1999    50.       Valve head diameter not to exceed 1.5”.  Minimum stem diameter 5/16”.

2000    50.       Change to:  Use of  offset key between crankshaft timing keyway and

                        the crankshaft timing gear keyway is optional.  Camshaft timing gear

                        material optional.  Camshaft gear may be drilled to realign camshaft

                        shaft pins for valve timing-setting purposes only.                                          _____  _____
